Misleading Tract

This is from the tract entitled “Endless Jihad.” Whoever authored it, it is misleading.

“The usual meaning of Islam in Arabic is not “peace” but “submission.” And if the terrorists were so far outside the mainstream, why did Muslims all over the world burst into joyful, spontaneous celebrations when the hijacked jetliners slammed into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon? Why are Islamic governments afraid to show “too much” public support for the war against terrorism? Further, why are all the governments that covertly support terrorism centered in the Muslim world?”

First of all, the “celebrations” in the Middle East on Sept. 11 that some media sources released were false because it was nighttime in the Middle East when these clips were shown on TV, so they couldn’t have been from September 11.

Second of all, correlation is not causation. Just because governments that “covertly support terrorism” are mostly in Muslim countries does not mean that Islam has caused these governments to support terrorism.

Nice story, there. Now let’s learn about what really happened.

***"***The argument that the footage CNN used could not possibly be real because it showed Palestinians in broad daylight not long after the attack — even though Palestinian territory is several time zones ahead of New York — is not valid. Eastern Daylight Time in the United States is six hours behind the area of the Middle East referred to as Palestine. Thus, when the first attack occurred in New York just before 9:00 A.M., Palestine time would have been 3:00 P.M., and the area would still have been bathed in plenty of mid-afternoon sunlight."

Good job!

The tract is still offensive and is very opposed to the religion of Islam.

My new approach toward assuring that this is a place in which folks can discuss, dialogue, and debate, but do so with respect and charity for one another is early intervention.

EJ has made his point that the tract in question is offensive to Muslims and opposed to Islam, which would be a reasonable expectation given its title.

Exoflare has also made his point that one of EJ’s two assertions, the more concrete of the two, is not supported by the facts.

EJ, if you want to do so, please open another thread focusing on the second of your points which is more subjective, but offers an opportunity for discussion and debate (combining it in the same post with references to dancing in the streets invites the kind of inflammatory responses that adds nothing to dialogue).

I thank those who participated in this thread and I especially thank both sides for being civil in doing so.

The thread is now closed.
