Thanks for the answers. To clarify one point, after being away from the Church, I did go to confession last month, so I've been OK with Communion up to this past Sunday. I'll go to Mass this Sunday and skip communion, and if I can't find a place to go to confession during the week, I'll make an appointment to see a priest. Thanks again. It's wonderful to be back and I don't want to miss out on the eucharist if at all possible,
If you miss Mass through no fault of your own then it is not a sin.
Some priests are nice enough that you can approach them after Mass and they'll make time for a confession. Some would even do this before Mass, depending on the situation and if its like maybe half an hour before Mass, not when the priest is walking down for the procession.
