Mission is free gift of the Spirit, not result of strategies

The proclamation of the Gospel is "something different from all political, cultural, psychological, or religious forms of proselytism.” Mission is a free gift of the Spirit, and cannot be entrusted to “training programs” or “ecclesiastical establishments” that "seem to be swallowed up by the obsession of promoting themselves and their own initiatives and advertising their own initiatives.”

Pope Francis reflected on the foundations of the Christian mission in a message to the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS), which were to meet in Rome for their annual General Assembly. The event was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Wonderful, wonderful speech. It cut right to the heart of right focus in what it is to be ‘missionary’. My parents used to speak in such a joyful and animated way about the Redemptorist missions that came through regularly evangelising in that same spirit. It reminds me of a pre Babel language that everyone can understand no matter where in the wide world a Catholic is. On CAF it is manifest to me through my Catholic connection with @graciew most of all. Although we come from very different cultures and very different continents (Australia/South America), I recognise that universal Catholic mission in our exchanges.

Thankyou God for the gift of Pope Francis in steering us straight! (Very inspired by that speech)

That was very lovely…Thank you

Time and time again , there is that sparkle , that re sounds in the heart that we are children of God. That instant we know somehow we share one Father. Then it is gone in our everyday haste…
When he speaks , his words sound deep in that place where we know we are asked to search who we are , where we come from and where we are going to. And be sent, joyfully…
And the continuous need to adjust our inner GPS to the very heart of He who loves us. And recognize each other through His eyes…
Gratitude is probably the word that personally draws me the most. And that it has always been in His hands.
Sounds like rambling I know… there is so much and very few words to express it. Discernment as a struggle and mission…
I love it that Pope Francis keeps us flexing… kind of on our toes…not that we have arrived yet :slightly_smiling_face:

P Francis has a gift for afflicting the comfortable and well positioned.

Kind of all of us in one way or another…takes a trip inside ourselves. The hardest trip probably…no quarantine or lock down for that one :slightly_smiling_face:, no mouth cover nor distances, with Jesus.

Yes. To bring comfort to the uncomfortable and to bring discomfort to the comfortable is central to the Gospel
