Missionary activity in Eastern Christianity

I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me as to how missions work in Eastern Catholic and Orthodox traditions. For one, what sort of mission activity is there? As I had understood that eastern churches, as national entities, minister to specific people groups I wasn’t sure exactly how this got lived out in evangelizing other nations/cultures. Also, of most interest to me is how the new converts’ relationship to a national church is to be understood, since many would not be members of an eastern nation (not many Greeks, Russians, Iraqis, etc. in sub-Saharan Africa, for instance). At what point does a new national church emerge? Thanks for any insights.

Dear Andreas,

This is not quite what you are enquiring about but it may be useful all the same.

Sorry to say there is some *static * in the thread caused by the critics and naysayers but it is easy enough to search out the worthwhile posts. Some are at the beginning and some at the end of the thread.
