Mom in U.K. Fined for Grieving Too Long at Baby Son's Funeral

Burial costs over twice as much as cremation in London for residents - the cheapest average funeral is at least around £3,500 pounds or so - for Catholics who have a limited number of cemeteries to choose from. That is why cremation is more popular here - the Church as you state prefers burial but where it would cripple a working class family with debt I think Priests and clergy would understand why cremation was chosen. My father has funeral insurance to the value of about £5,000 pounds to prevent my wife and me having to pay for it when he eventually dies as since I am an only child the responsiblity would fall to me.
