What exactly is the relationship between the song “Mrs. Robinson” and Christianity? Because the chorus has the obvious references to Jesus and Heaven, but both Simon and Garfunkel were Jewish, which leads me to believe there might be something else going on. Thanks.
“Mrs. Robinson” was the theme song for the movie, the Graduate, which brought Dustin Hoffman to stardom. Mrs. Robinson is the mother of the family next door. She seduces Hoffman’s character, so she’s not exactly a paragon of virtue.
I believe the references to Our Lord are somewhat sarcastic references to the fact that she needs to clean up her life.
