I wish I could say something appropriate, because surely this priest deserves all the plaudits one could assemble. That, however, is just the problem: all would be less than enough. He was a wonderful parish priest, one with an enthusiasm for discussing all current Catholic concerns (particularly those concerning V2 and its ramifications), and, of course, the guiding light behind the wonderful Masses at St. Agnes. To those who periodically hear a Mass played by the Minnesota Orchestra and sung by some choral group on the stage at Orchestra Hall (truly a painful experience), the chance to hear such Masses sung in a setting as true to the original as the Novus Ordo permits is an unforgettable treat.

I cherish the memory of his telling me that V2 made possible the polka and bongo Masses, so there was no reason why we couldn’t at last have the classical Masses! In came Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert and Haydn! This was an idea that no one had come up with, and, no surprise, that sort of “diversity” was not greeted with universal joy!

We have so much for which to thank Monsignor. He should be in all our prayers.

Anna

Our Father in Heaven
Holy be Your Name
Your Kingdom come
Your Will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our sins
As we forgive those who sin against us
Do not bring us to the test
But deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace!
The Lord is with you
Blessed are you among women
And Blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God
Pray for us sinners
Now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory be to the Father,
And to the Son,
And to the Holy Spirit.

As it was in the beginning
Is now and ever shall be
World without end.
Amen.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,
And let perpetual light shine upon him.

May he rest in peace.
Amen.

May the souls of the faithfully departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.
