My Icon of St.Paul

Hello I bought this icon of St.Paul the other day and took a photo of it for you to see. I am interested in how to explain the Icon. Anyone here care to inform me behind the theology of the Icon?

Note the large forehead, and that he was balding, both meant to signify great wisdom and learning.

Given his many writings included in the New Testament, he is shown holding the Gospel.

Icon is an American heavy metal /glam metal band that formed in 1981, disbanding in 1990. History Formation: Icon was formed in 1981,

thanks for sharing.

Red is original human nature and made saintly by the blue.
Also the halo indicates holiness.
He wrote gospels so he holds them. They are closed, the revelation is complete.

Άγιος Παύλος = Saint Paul (Agios Paulos)

My own two cents for what its worth is: Red can either symbolize Martyrdom, or Divine Gifts or graces. Blue from what I’ve learned on Orthodoxwiki symbolizes ‘‘human’’. In other words what I saw then was that St.Paul is human but clothed with Divine graces. Interesting note about him being baldy byzcantor. I thought he was baldy because of his Nazarite vow he was under and so he cut his hair in the Acts. I guess that could be another way of looking at it?

The Gold from what I’ve learned last night symbolizes the radiance of Heaven. and I saw that ( at least in my icon above ) his three fingers are close together to indicate the trinity and his thumb and index close together to indicate the two natures of Christ.

It would make sense that the Gospel is in red because it is Divine and the the color red symbolizes the Divine.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Its always nice to have help in figuring out the theological story in the Icon. I had another question: If I light a candle ( i.e tea candle ) in front of the hand written Icon will it damage the icon? the heat from the candle that is?

Thanks everyone

Those colors are reversed. You can see it on Christ’s icon where is is wearing blue outer appearance (Divinity) with inner of red (human). The Theotokos has those colors reversed.
