I am a retired military officer. In the scripture it says 'he who seeks the office of the Bishop seeks a good work" … the same can be said of your son. In seeking to become a soldier, your son is relinquishing his right to life and freedom for God and country. This is altruistic and without such sacrifices from him and yourself, our country would not be free. In the country we live in today, I speak now of educational, social, and cultural development of our children, the military is a very good option in the development of your son into a man … and that is what he will be after he is fully trained. You have many moments of great pride ahead, a pride that only comes from a good son. Though you may join a long line of parents who have lost their children to war, and the horrors that come of such, comfort yourself with the fact that God rewards such altruistic self sacrifice, for to lay down ones life for God and country is the greatest love man can have. The world is in a state of war, without men like your son we would be subject to men like the North Korean Dictator … thank God we are not.
In God we Trust,
Lieutenant McCabe (Retired) Battle Captain Mosul, Iraq 2008.
