Myanmar men may face jail for not marrying pregnant women

Myanmar’s government is drafting a law that could see men jailed for up to seven years for getting a woman pregnant but not marrying her, a senior official said on Wednesday.
The provision is part of tough new legislation designed to strengthen women’s rights as the country opens up after half a century of military rule.

Wow. Powerful incentive for a man to exercise self-control.

They also punish women for getting abortions so everybody has an incentive to practice self control.

Interesting. See, there’s an example of a cultural context where punishing for abortions makes more sense. They’re already sensitive to it. They haven’t subscribed as a nation to the sexual revolution’s values, or so it sounds. It is also heartening to hear they intend to introduce domestic violence laws.
