Named a Protestant as Godparent - Can I Change It?

When my (now 3 year old) son was born, I named my brother (a Protestant) as the Godfather. I was under the impression that as long as he agreed that he would raise my son as a Catholic, he didn’t have to be a Catholic.

If protestants can’t be Godparents, does my son have a Godfather? If not, do I need to name one now?

This link should answer your question about how to deal with less than ideal godparents. If you have any further questions or concerns that are not answered by this link, please contact Catholic Answers directly.
