I probably sound crazy to most of you but I have struggled nearly my whiole life with an intense fear of death and the alienation it causes. I am terrified of being burried in the ground, trapped alone forever. I have intellectual struggles in accepting life after death and the existence of god. I actually resent god for death and separation. I cant stop thinking of the past and all the dead people who are no more. The future terrifies me since it only means that I am running out of time. What can I do? I pray constantly but God doesn't take this away from me. Please pray for me, I am ashamed that asking for prayers for myself is selfish but need your prayers.
Many times, we can overcome an irrational fear - such as a fear of spiders - by having a greater understanding of what we fear. One fears the unknown.
I would suggest two approaches. First, read materials by COMPETENT PEOPLE on near death experiences. (Ignore the news media's sensational headines) Try:
Second, unlike any prior time in history, there is now a "theory" (nothing yet proven) of how there can be a spirit and how that may work within physics as we currently understand it:
On the normal every day level - the macro level - we live in a deterministic world. That is, if one looks at our normal world, free will is impossible, because everything has a cause and effect relationship.
On a QUANTUM LEVEL - the extraordinarily small - some things happen statistically and some things happen randomly and observation and action change the statistics.
The argument becomes that if the brain has quantum-sized structures then this allows us to have free will. It also allows us to be connected to the universe (God) via "sub-dimensions" and a concept called quantum entanglement. This concept is called the "quantum mind" - for a starting reference read the Penrose section of en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_mind
If there is a Quantum aspect to the brain (and a candidate structure are Microtubules), it could serve as an explanation for the spirit and how the spirit functions in the universe - specifically if string theory is correct and there are 11 dimensions (7 so tightly wound that we cannot observe them) then to a quantum based spirit probably all 11 dimensions would be something that it could experience - thus "Heaven" is literally right next to us, and we canot see it.
None of this denies the existence of God (or to downplay God) any more than understanding how birds fly deny His existence. It's just the beginning of a opportunity to see parts of His Creation that in the past we had no ability to comprehend.
