No lattice

#1

In The Book of Sirach, part of Chapter 42 expresses A Father’s Care for His Daughter.
Verse 11 expresses: See that there is no lattice in her room,
no place that overlooks the approaches to the house.
Please explain.

We need only read the whole verse

My son, keep a close watch on your daughter,
lest she make you a laughingstock for your enemies,
A byword in the city and the assembly of the people,
an object of derision in public gatherings.
See that there is no lattice in her room,
or spot that overlooks the approaches to the house.

Essentially, it seems like precautions to protect her virginity/chastity/modesty. A lattice could be climbed up or down.

Hi!

…way back when, when people practiced self-control and honor, marriages were arrangements made by families… the espoused (betrothed) were expected to be pure/chaste/virgin–specially so of young females. The counsel is to keep the girls out of sight and accessibility of those who would manipulate them into sexual relations.

Maran atha!
