November is the Month of the Holy Souls!

Join me in praying for the Holy Souls in Purgatory this November! Post any prayers you wish and post the names of any loved ones for whom you wish prayers.

From St. Faustina’s Diary:

20 [The Next night] I saw my Guardian Angel, who ordered me to follow him. In a moment I was in a misty place full of fire in which there was a great crowd of suffering souls. They were praying fervently, but to no avail, for themselves; only we can come to their aid. The flames which were burning them did not touch me at all. My Guardian Angel did not leave me for an instant. I asked these souls what their greatest suffering was. They answered me in one voice that their greatest torment was longing for God. I saw Our Lady visiting the souls in Purgatory. The souls call her “The Star of the Sea.” She brings them refreshment. I wanted to talk with them some more, but my Guardian Angel beckoned me to leave. We went out of that prison of suffering.* which said,** My mercy does not want this, but justice demands it.*** Since that time, I am in closer communion with the suffering souls.

Christ, hear us. Christ, graciously hear us.
Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy on us.
Lord, have mercy.
From the gate of hell, deliver their souls, O Lord.
O Lord, hear my prayer. And let my cry come unto Thee.

Let us pray.

O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, grant unto the souls of Thy servants departed the remission of all their sins; that, by pious supplications, they may obtain the pardon which they have always desired. Grant this, O God, Who livest and reignest for ever and ever. Amen.

O eternal God, Who, besides the general precept of charity, hast commanded a particular respect for parents, kindred, and benefactors; grant, we beseech Thee, that, as they were the instruments by which Thy providence bestowed on us our birth, education and innumerable other blessings, so our prayers may be the means to obtain for them a speedy release from their excessive sufferings, and admittance to Thine infinite joys. Through Jesus Christ, Our Lord.

Eternal rest give unto them, O Lord.
And let the perpetual light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace. Amen.

Would that more folks would spend some time and charity on behalf of these souls - they would find their own reward a thousand fold, and in so many ways!

Amen. Joining you in prayer.
Mary.

Praying for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory.

O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of Mercy for us, I trust in You!

O most gentle Heart ofJesus, ever present in the Blessed Sacrament, ever consumed with burning love for the poor captive souls in Purgatory, have mercy on the souls of Thy departed servants. Be not severe in Thy judgments, but let some drops of Thy Precious Blood fall upon the devouring flames. And do Thou, O Merciful Saviour, send Thy holy angels to conduct them to a place of refreshment, light and peace. Amen

Praying.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Prayer for the Dead:

God our Father,
Your power brings us to birth,
Your providence guides our lives,
and by Your command we return to dust.

Lord, those who die still live in Your presence,
their lives change but do not end.
I pray in hope for my family,
relatives and friends,
and for all the dead known to You alone.

In company with Christ,
Who died and now lives,
may they rejoice in Your kingdom,
where all our tears are wiped away.
Unite us together again in one family,
to sing Your praise forever and ever.

Amen.

This month, I am praying for all those who are in Purgatory, and I’m especially praying for my Papa, who passed away from Lou Gehrig’s on November 16, 2002, and for my music teacher, who passed away on February 19, 2012, from cancer. No matter the time, missing them will never end, but I know by praying for them, they will find and have peace.

Amen

Prayer for the Dead

their lives change but do not end.
I pray in hope for my family,
relatives and friends,
and for all the dead known to You alone.

In company with Christ,
Who died and now lives,
may they rejoice in Your kingdom,
where all our tears are wiped away.
Unite us together again in one family,
to sing Your praise forever and ever.

Thanks for starting this thread NeedsMercy. Joining everyone in prayer for the souls in purgatory.

O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, grant unto the souls of Thy departed

servants full remission of all their sins, that through the help of our pious supplications they

may obtain that pardon which they have always desired, Thou Who livest and reignest world

without end. Amen

Please remember that the Holy Souls need our prayers so much, since they cannot pray for themselves. Imagine their gratitude to those who pray for their release to Heaven!

**Novena for the Holy Souls in Purgatory by St Alphonsus Liguori **

Let us commend to Jesus Christ and His holy Mother the souls in Purgatory, in particular those of our relatives, benefactors, friends, and enemies; especially those for whom we are bound to pray; and let us offer the following considerations and prayers for them, pondering over the great sufferings which these spouses of Christ endure.

First Day

Manifold are the sufferings which those blessed souls must endure,
but the greatest of all is the reflection that their sins in life
are the cause of their present torments.

Prayer

O Jesus, my Savior, I have so often deserved to be cast into hell. How great would be my suffering if I were now cast away and obliged to think that I myself had caused my damnation. I thank Thee for the patience with which Thou hast endured me. My God, I love Thee above all things and I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee because Thou art infinite goodness. I will rather die than offend Thee again. Grant me the grace of perseverance. Have pity on me and at the same time on those blessed souls suffering in Purgatory. Mary, Mother of God, come to their assistance with thy powerful intercession.

Our Father, Who art in Heaven,
hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women and
Blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

On Thy spouses have compassion,
On these suffering children thine
Make these holy souls partakers
Of Thy happiness divine.

and of losing God forever.

Amen.

O Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in Purgatory and for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the Universal Church, for those in my own home and for those within my family.

Second Day

The second pain which causes these holy souls much suffering
is the time lost in life, when they might have gained merits for Heaven;
and the thought that they are unable to repair this loss
because the time of life and merit is passed.

Prayer

Woe to me, unhappy being, so many years have I already spent on earth and have earned naught but hell! I give Thee thanks, O Lord, for granting me time even now to atone for my sins. My good God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee. Send me Thy assistance, that I may apply the time yet remaining to me for Thy love and service; have compassion on me, and, at the same time, on the holy souls suffering in Purgatory. O Mary, Mother of God, come to their assistance with thy powerful intercession.

Our Father, Who art in Heaven,
hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our trespasses,

And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Blessed art thou amongst women and
Blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

On Thy spouses have compassion,
On these suffering children thine
Make these holy souls partakers
Of Thy happiness divine.

Third Day

Another great pain of the holy souls
is caused by the hideous vision of their guilt,
for which they now suffer.
In this life, the hideousness of sin
is not seen as in the life to come;
and this is one of the greatest sufferings
of Purgatory.

Prayer

O my God, because Thou art infinite goodness, I love Thee above all things,
and repent with my whole heart of my offences against Thee.
Grant me the grace of holy perseverance.
Have compassion on me, and, at the same,
on the holy souls suffering in Purgatory.
And thou, Mary, Mother of God,
come to their assistance with thy powerful intercession.
