NY gov. wants tax on porn

I think this is a good thing and I am against the porn industry. Let them pay their fair share. They do a lot of damage to society and should be forced to pay.

I believe that artists whose songs have sexual lyrics should also have to pay a tax to pay for unwanted children.

Don’t be fooled, this isn’t from some moral impetus – we’re in the hole and Gov. Paterson is looking to tax anything. Last month it was soft drinks because they cause child obesity but that got shot down pretty quick. I’m gonna start filling giant balloons with air before they slap a tax on that.

Such a tax would never work anyway – the ACLU would keep it tied up in court over who gets to define “porn” and if it ever got past that how are they going to monitor everybody’s downloading? I don’t want them to.

But what is porn? To some, religion is porn.

Yes, it is a good idea, but it is open to abuse if it is not specifically codified.

I thought this was also a good idea until someone told me that if the state does this, the state will then push porn - relax restrictions and have stores that openly sell porn to make money. This would have to be addressed first.

The ACLU would tie it up. I give Patterson a  for trying to talk about porn even if for tax money. The money could be used for agencies that deal with sexual abuse in children, etc.

My view is that all webpages that contain porn should have an .xxx domain. Any site that contains porn and doesn’t have the xxx domain should be shut down. I also believe porn is easy to define. I believe this is the best way to combat it.

If alcohol and tobacco are taxed at a high rate, than so should porn be taxed IMO. It does more damage to society.

If you tax it then by tacit consent you legitimize it.

Further, once you tax it you become dependent upon the income stream you generate from the revenue.

Further, once you need the revenue stream you have a vested interest in keeping the activity going as an ongoing concern, even if you don’t like it* (look to tobacco).

Well there doesn’t seem to be anybody who is proposing doing anything that would in any hurt the porn industry through puting it out of business. Is any serious pol coming out in favor of repealing the people vs lary filint? I doubt it. I support such a move, but it seems very unlikely.

So we need to find a backdoor way to hurt the porn industry and this is exactly how to do it. In fact, I would go a step further and put a tax on sexually explicit music. I would use this money to pay for welfare checks that single mothers recieve. I believe that people who create media that causes social problems should pay the cost of the social problems.

if this tax were somehow morally based to fight porn i’d be all for it.

however this is just a politicians attempt to grab a little more of the pie for him and his buddies. greed is something i dont want any part of.
