Washington, DC – Although members of Congress and the public were focused on abortion funding and other political issues during President Barack Obama’s health care speech, some observers have another reason to think, “You lie,” when it comes to protecting the rights of heath care workers.
It doesn’t sound as though there is anything in the bill so far that would allay the concerns expressed by the USCCB in this letter dated August 11th. If the possibility of abortion funding can be positively removed from the bill, and conscience protection can be reestablished, perhaps the bishops will change their view.
However, to date, I don’t see any congressional intent to come to grips with the objections stated in the USCCB letter of Aug 11.
