Obama: Regulate broadband Internet like a utility so it 'works for everyone.'

cnet.com/news/president-obama-calls-on-fcc-to-keep-internet-free-and-open/

Personally…I would not trust that man to take a phone call…

But that’s just me, of course…)

Also…can we say “Internet Tax?”

(Although At&T and Comcast have been throttling bandwith of people for gain, too—admittedly.
And YES, I know Net Neutrality is important. :o )

Comments welcome…:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I think he just needs to go on vacation for the rest of his term and his phone and pen need confiscated.

#3

Chief Justice John Marshall famously wrote that “The power to tax is the power to destroy.” I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to extend that observation to “the power to regulate.” North Korea regulates the Internet there. We shouldn’t.

#4

YES. He likes vacations, after all…the issue is he ALSO likes his pen and phone…the Secret Service are supposed to protect the office of the presidency and by letting that man into the white house they are failing…

#5

#6

I wouldn’t lose any sleep over that.

#7

The idea of such freedom as the internet is a consternation to many on the left whose instincts are to control and regulate everything.

#8

It would also interfere with all that child porn and black-market drugs.

… God forbid we stop letting people use the internet to do terrible things…

#9

True…but you dont think the powers would be abused?

I mean we should stop terrorism but Patritot Act goes too far. Same here. This goes way too far. It would be a nice opportunity to attack subversive or religious sites…

#10

Interesting that in these 9 posts in a thread about Net Neutrality, none of the posts were about Net Neutrality.

#11

True.

#12

Not to mention conservative new sites. :sad_yes::sad_yes:

#13

Good point.

(Love the Tolkien reference, BTW. Read that story in my Fantasy class in college a long time ago.)

Indeed.

#14

Ummm…see 1st word of title.

#15

Good point as well. LOL.

That is one of the things I love about these forums…

People can notice various things about a thread they had never noticed before…:p:)

#16

Sometimes you just have to stick with the part you know something about. :stuck_out_tongue:

#17

Freedom? You mean the ‘freedom’ for ISPs to regulate how much freedom you have on the internet?

#18

They didn’t get that far. They heard the word “Obama” and stopped listening.

#19

Obama:Regulate sends up some big red flags, for sure.

#20

If I have to choose to trust either ISP, or the central government (particularly the current regime), I choose the ISP.
