Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Today's Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows comes the day after the Feast of the Exultation of the Holy Cross. Saturdays follow Fridays. The Feast of the Immaculate Heart follows the Feast of the Sacred Heart. The Church's Liturgy continually reminds us of the intimate and unique union of Jesus and Mary. Today's Gospel:
John 19: 25 – 27 So the soldiers did this. But standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Mag’dalene. When Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing near, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.
May we do as John did. In hearing the words of Jesus, John took Mary; not only was she Jesus' Mother but now John's Mother, and ours. John took her into his life. Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us. St. John, Beloved Disciple, pray for us. Jesus, we trust in You.
