Pamela Anderson to play Virgin Mary in Christmas special

IF that is true, then it IS good news.:):o

OOps I made a mistake on my post below. It WAS NOT the CBS station I referred to in my post. I misread the article. SORRY:eek:

See if we can get this show banned in Canada. Earlier this year the CSBC banned the song Maney for Nothin because one person complained about the word “******” in the song.

Dear Sir/Madame

To the horror of Canada’s 12,000,000 Catholics the CTV has chosen to air on Dec. 1st, 2011, “A Russell Peter’s Christmas Special.”

In the program the Virgin Mary will be played by Pamela Anderson, a porn actress who appeared in various sex tapes with famous rock stars.

As a member of the Roman Catholic Church and a citizen of Canada I implore the CRTC (Canadian Radio-television and telecommunications Canada) and the CBSC (Canadian Broadcasters Standards Council) to ban the airing of the upcoming program in Canada.

Allow me to point out two recent cases where the CBSC intervened recently which clearly set precedent for such a ban.

In January, 2011, the CBSC banned the song Money for Nothing by Dire Straights as it was too offensive for Canadian audiences because it contained the word “faggot”. In the context of the song it is not really used in a derogatory way, nor is the word clearly audible, however CSBC felt a ban was in order after receiving only one complaint from a listener in St. John’s Newfoundland.

In December, 2010, The CBSC banned the Canadian evangelical minister Charles McVety after an industry watchdog ruled that statements he had made about homosexuals violated its broadcasting codes.

Is it not offensive to a Catholic to see the revered mother of Jesus portrayed by a pornstar. Would not Jews be equally offended if Pamela Anderson were to make an “irreverent” film about Auschwitz? Or would African Americans not be offended by an “irreverent” film about Rosa Parks.

The following is from section 8 of the Motion Picture Code of 1930 on religion.

  1. No film or episode may throw ridicule on any religious faith.
  2. Ministers of religion in their character as ministers of religion should not be used as comic characters or as villains.
  3. Ceremonies of any definite religion should be carefully and respectfully handled.

The program that CTV plans to air this December 1st is hardly the type of program that would instill harmony in our multicultural society, rather it will foster religious hatred. If this is not an occasion were intervention is required I have to wonder what is.

I sincerely hope that the CRTC and the CSBC will take measures to ensure this program will not air on Canadian television.

Thank you,

In the following extract from the news article in the link given earlier, it appears that Russel Peters is being quoted. It would be an idea to get more proof of this and perhaps include it in the above letter.

The special, which will be hosted by comedian Russell Peters, will deliver "an irreverent twist on the Christmas special making it unlike anything viewers have seen before."

The petition letter - (extremely well put together) - needs to include proof of this actual ‘intention’ on the part of the host/producer, Russel Peters, to show that he is using her immoral notoriety to heighten the ‘…irreverent twist…’

Proving his deliberate and planned intention to promote irreverence towards a religious figure, will be a powerful incentive to those who decide.

Simply stating that she is, what she is, is merely commenting on her suitability to play the part. That might not carry too much weight these days, as they may say she is also an actress and her personal/or even public life do not come into her professional career.

Hope I’ve been of some help here. It’s really awful. If necessary, please consider posting a thread on prayer intentions. The prayer warriors would jump at a chance to make reparation to Our Lady and ask her intercession to sort this out.

I submitted my complaint.

Thanks Dees,
I was actually thinking it should have something like that but I lacked the brain power to actually put it together. I think I can fit that line in there nicely.

How would Jewish Canadians feel if Pamela Anderson were to make an “irreverent” film about Auschwitz? Would African Americans not be offended by an “irreverent” film about Rosa Parks? Are Catholics any different?

:DThanks Maundy…must tell my hubby that I do have some brains…just kidding. I’m pleased to have been of help. You have fitted it in nicely, and give yourself credit, it is a very well worded letter and I hope lots of Canadians/USA citizens make use of it.
I’m on another continent, pity, or would have sent one. Keep up the good work:thumbsup:

Great article in one of Canada’s leading newspapers

To be a serious Christian in modern Western culture is to be the favoured easy target of every progressive thinker and every half-witted comedian. It is to have your sensibilities and your deepest beliefs on perpetual call for taunts, mockery and desecration. At a time when all progressives preach full volume for inclusivity and sensitivity, for the utmost care in speech when speaking of others with differing views or hues, Christians, as Christians, are under a constant hail of abuse and disregard. There is nothing too low or too vulgar.

Several blogs have picked it up as well. Like this one

Hi Maundy a very big** WELL DONE**:thumbsup:to you. Perseverance and prayer pay off!!! (that was almost poetic, but not quite:rotfl:). Well, keep up the good work, we are grateful that you have taken the time and effort to defend the Mother of God so tirelessly:knight2:…She must think so too

Another good letter was published in the National Post today.
financialpost.com/todays-paper/More+naughty+than+nice/5787141/story.html

I am of Anglo-Indian ancestry and Catholic. And I’m just a little bit older than Russell Peters. I could be his older sister. My daughter is a member of the Bach Children’s Chorus, which was selected to appear on A Russell Peters Christmas. She was unable to participate in the chorus on the day the special was filmed, since that taping fell on Thanksgiving Day.
*
At the next chorus practice, a friend told my daughter that there were “strippers” in the Christmas show. I subsequently learned that they were women dressed in Victoria Secret style underwear. And now I read that Pamela Anderson will play Virgin Mary, and that this show is being touted as “more naughty than nice.”

Our choir administration was led to believe that this show was going to be a family-oriented Christmas special. It is obvious that family-oriented it will not be.

Shock value seems to be the new cheap thrill. Doesn’t the 2,000-year history of Christmas deserve to be portrayed as more than a run of cheap thrills? If Mr. Peters and CTV are looking to break stereotypes, then why keep making programming for the boys with beer bellies?

Anything tasteless to do with Christmas just doesn’t cut it as entertainment in my house. My family and I will not be watching this “Christmas special.”

Cathy Naus, Toronto.*

The show is scheduled to be broadcast tomorrow night (Dec. 1st). Does anyone plan on watching, to look for offensive content?

I’m in asia so I’ll have try and watch it online. Although I really DON’T want to watch it. I’ll be interested to see who advertises on it as well, it would be good to let them know that you disapprove of the show. As far as what can be accomplished if there is offensive content there is a chance that the CSBC, after enough people complain, will censure it and it won’t be repeated next year.

I’ve watched the show. Its not a big deal, its a skit. Russel isn’t trying to be anti-Catholic. In fact at the start of the show he told everyone he was raised Catholic (I guess implying he’s non-practicing at best, right now) and he defended calling it a “Christmas Special” and not some non-denominational winter event.

Put your pitchforks and torches down people

I caught a few clips of it on youtube, it was pure garbage.
the newspapers are calling it a complete failure.
winnipegfreepress.com/arts-and-life/entertainment/TV/hey-russell-we-werent-that-naughty-134813008.html

And that too. Not sure why Russel Peters came up with something like this. It had some funny moments, but was far less than one would expect watching a Russel Peters show.

That’s why i doubt it was his idea. Ever see that Dave Chapelle interview about how they tried to make him wear a dress? I just have a feeling there were other people working behind the scenes that made this what it was.

Posted in the wrong place - sorry. :o
