Paramilitary groups in Nicaragua's government broke into basilica and attacked bishops

Many photos document the drama of the attack on bishops, including a cardinal and the country’s nuncio, as well as priests, and their injuries.

When bishops and the country’s nuncio went to the basilica to free those who had sought refuge there from bloody clashes in the city, government partisans invaded the church and wounded them and reporters.

Nicaragua is a small country in Central America, just south of Mexico.

Why are they attacking the Catholic basilica?
