According to the above article, Neal was a pro-life advocate. She aborted her child after her affair with Gary Cooper ended. Cooper was 46 and she 21. He was married and suggested the abortion. Cooper was also Catholic. Sometime after the affair ended, his daughter, Maria, during a chance encounter with Neal, spat on her.

After Cooper's death, Rocky, his widow, Maria, and Neal became friends. It was Maria who brought Neal back to her Catholic faith. Maria also introduced her to Sister Dolores Hart (actress in Where The Boys Are etc.) a nun and now the mother superior at Abbey of Regina Laudis in Bethlehem, Co.

Neal helped to establish a theatre there named The Gary-The Olivia after Cooper and her daughter who died young.

She was also in “A Face In The Crowd,” one of the best movies ever made about the media. R.I.P. :gopray:
