Patron saint of EMTs

#1

Is there a patron saind of EMTs (emergency medical technicians) or EMS (emergency medical services)? I read that it was St.Michael but I really needed confirmation. Thanks so much and God Bless!!

I believe it is St. Michael the Archangel. Although St. Cosmas and St. Damian are the saints of medicine they must how have separated the classes a little. BTW St. Cosmas and St. Damian were twins

I have to agree that St. Michael is patron saint here.

When I First became an EMT 6 years ago I had to do a fair amount of research to come up with the answer to this. There are three possible choices, none exactly perfect. (I think this is because formal pre-hospital medicine is a relatively recent advent in the history of medicine, but that is a different story.) Those three would be St. Michael the Archangel, St. Albert the Great, and St. Luke the Evangelist. St. Michael is the traditional old time saint of all Public Safety (which would include Fire, EMS, and Police). However like Firefighters having St. Florian, there are also other possibilities for EMS’s patron saint. St. Albert the Great is the patron saint of medical technicians, but this is fairly ambiguous term that may very well include us. The other option that is usually posited would be St. Luke because of his connection with medicine. While he is patron saint of doctors, this may apply to EMT’s because of their relationship to the doctor. (For those who don’t know, we are considered an extension of a doctor, which is why every EMT is required to have medical direction from a doctor.) The funny part here is that there are another 6 patron saint of doctors but I could find no reference to them as a patron of an EMT.

I hope this helps.

Ok, I found on sqpn that it said it was St. Michael, so now I’m trying to find a St. Michael rosary and having a lot of trouble. Anyone know of any good gift shops near LA that would have one?
