According to CNN, London 12November2014:

Touchdown! The Philae probe has landed on the surface of a comet, scientists from the European Space Agency (ESA) announced Wednesday.

This is really exciting. Space stuff fascinates me…so many firsts in my lifetime.
While I wish a planetary landing would have occurred, perhaps this comet will
provide scientists with surprising new information about our universe.

You mean a manned planetary landing, non?

Lamentably, adding human life to the payload increases the cost a hundredfold for not much gain in the science. Methinks robots will be our collective hands in the heavens for a long time.

yes, a manned landing on another planet is what I hope for.
This will not occur in my lifetime because of the cost and
length of time (travel and prepare for mission).
Besides, we already have 2 robots on Mars…and…Opportunity is
still rolling after 10 years. Amazing!

Indeed. The same factors that make Mars impossible for human life make it easy on robots.
