Photo: Priest administers the Eucharist to U.S. soldiers during the Battle of Iwo Jima, 1945

A Roman Catholic chaplain distributes the Eucharist (Holy Communion) to battle-grimed members of the 5th Marine Division in the midst of the bloody fight for Iwo Jima.

Iwo Jima is an island of Japan.

In this terrible battle, Americans had 26,000 casualties, one third of their force. Nearly all the Japanese defenders were killed.

THANK GOD for that Priest and for those soldiers.
