Please Pray For My Father

#1

My father, Jorge, is in Mexico. I was never able to get too close to him. He is a cold, bitter man who has not learned to forgive. He has too much anger and would not let go. He has issues with my mother(I won’t go into details.). Sometimes I think he takes it out on me and thinks I am not on his side. I learned not to be angry at anyone. I’ve tried to convince him to forgive and forget, but he says he can’t. I am trying to pray to have God losen his heart and find a way to forgive those who hurt him. He has hurt me. I have not had contact with him in three years. I miss him and I wish he could see me as another daugther. I don’t want him to leave this life with anger in his heart. I love him dearly.

Our dear Father in Heaven please touch the heart of Aliciar’s father, grant help him to see that anger and bitterness is a curse and obstacle in his love for his family and others. In Christ’s name. Amen.

A Pater Noster, Ave Maria, Oratio Fatimae and Gloria Patri.

Lord, please help aliciar’s father to forgive. Help him to turn to you in prayer and seek the graces he needs to forgive his wife. If she did him wrong, I pray she can ask him for forgiveness. If she did no wrong, I ask for him to see how he is misunderstood about her and ask you to help change his way of thinking. Jesus, I ask you to help this man pray for the people who have hurt him and help him to love them, not remain embittered. Grant him the peace he needs to begin to love again in a way that does no harm. Heal his soul, Lord; he is hurt. Also, he is hurting himself by remaining so cold and embittered. Send the Holy Spirit down upon him to melt away any coldness of heart and soften his heart enough to seek you as a guide through his pain. You suffered because of others and serve as our example. May aliciar’s father learn from your example and love his enemies and pray for those who persecute him - and not remain cold and embittered toward them. Thank you, Lord, for hearing my prayer. Help me to love my enemies and help me to pray for my persecutors too. May I not be cold and embittered toward them, but let your love and mercy heal the depths of the painful wounds that are the source of my unwillingness to be hurt again. May aliciar’s father become so filled with your spirit of love and mercy that nothing coming against him can separate him from loving you and others. May nothing coming against me to separate me from being faithful to you, as well. Amen.

This is one of my very favorite quotes regarding forgiveness (mercy) I used to read it to my classes in prison:
**
**
**
The quality of mercy is not strain’d.
It drops as the gentle rain from heaven
upon the place beneath:
**
it is twice blest;
it blesses him that gives and him that takes.
'Tis the mightiest thing in the mightiest of men, **
it becomes the throned monarch better than his crown;
for his sceptre shows the force of temporal power,
an attribute to awe and majesty,
wherein does sit the dread and fear of kings.
But mercy is above this sceptred sway,
** enthroned in the hearts of kings.

It is an attribute of God himself;
** and earthly power does then show most like God’s

** when mercy seasons justice. **
Therefore, though justice be thy plea, consider this;
** that, in the course of justice, none of us

** would see salvation.**
But we do pray for mercy; and that same prayer **
** does teach us all to render

** the deeds of mercy.

I do hope your father will come to understand the great power of mercy.
**

**Oh precious Jesus,
We ask you to help this child touch
the heart of their father. You alone can change
the heart of this man. We ask you to reunite
this family if it be your will. We ask you to
bless this child for bringing their parent to you
in prayer. We ask you to hold up all earthly
mothers and fathers so that they will lead
their children to God through you.
AMEN

From today’s Liturgy of the Hours:

Prayers and Intercessions

God has sent salvation to his people. Let us pray to him with joy:
– Lord, you are our life.

Blessed are you, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, for in your compassion you have renewed us and given us living hope
by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
– Lord, you are our life.

You created man in your image and in Christ you renewed us:
shape us in the image of your Son.
– Lord, you are our life.

Our hearts are wounded by envy and hate:
fill them with the love that comes from the Holy Spirit.
– Lord, you are our life.

Give work to labourers today, bread to the hungry, consolation to the sad,
and grace and salvation to all men.
– Lord, you are our life.

Our Father, who art in Heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Lord, give us true knowledge of our salvation,
so that freed from the hands of our enemies
we may serve you without fear all the days of our lives.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever.
Amen.
