Although she tried to conceive with her spouse for about 5 years, the mother was told that she had PCOS and would never conceive.
Then, she went for counseling and was told that she was bi-polar and was prescribed psychotropics for over a year…from two neurologists and several psychiatrists. Each switched her meds, so no one really knew what worked – none were given long enough to really work.
She never gave up her faith.
When she told her latest psychiatrist that she was amazingly pregnant, he counseled her for over two hours to have a “theraputic abortion,” and told her horror stories of mothers who regretting not aborting, and of children who had “no quality of life” because of the medications their mothers took.
She refused, although her husband and his family told her bluntly that she shouldn’t “try so hard to bring a child with birth defects into this world,” as she would always be able to “try again.”
Well, she stopped the meds on the day she found out she was pregnant and went through severe withdrawals for about a month. It wasn’t until a few weeks after she stopped the medication that she learned that it was diabetes that caused the mood swings and other symptoms. It was not bi-polar at all. Her psychiatrists never did any blood work on her to check stress hormone levels or to rule out any other physiological factors. Her OB/GYN, though, was very thorough and counselled her to wait and NOT to terminate the pregnancy.
She’s only seen her psychologist in all this time and refuses to go back to the doctors, despite severe pressure from her family.
This week she had her 12-week ultrasound with the perinatologists. They all looked for the markers of abnormalities on the ultrasound screen, but they weren’t there. It’s a healthy baby growing inside of her. It’s a miracle. (Another ultrasound happening at 20 weeks.)
Please pray to God in thanks for this baby who was never supposed to be conceived, and when it did happen, would have been aborted if not for God’s grace alone. Please continue to pray for the mother’s health and peace of mind. Please pray that the baby continues to grow in health.
