Pope announces the Year of the Priest beginning 6/19

Here is a Vatican translation of the letter Benedict XVI sent to the priests of the world on the occasion of the Year for Priests, which has been called to mark the 150th anniversary of the death of St. John Mary Vianney.

On Friday, the solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and day of prayer for the sanctification of the clergy, Benedict XVI will inaugurate this Jubilee Year for Priests during Vespers in the Vatican Basilica.

Our associate priest spoke about this Year during our morning mass today…in fact we did an abbreviated Chaplet of Divine Mercy for the intentions of an increase in vocations to the priesthood and for our priests in general. We know God is calling me to the vocation of priesthood and the diaconate, but we have to pray that they will finally respond to his call. It took me almost 15 years but I finally answered…and believe me the call just kept getting louder. I don’t know how any man can ignore it!

How wonderful! This news just brightened my day!
