***Among the birthday greetings that he received during the day, the Pope was expected to draw special pleasure from a visit by representatives of the San Lorenzo football club, of which he is a longstanding member. The Argentine club is celebrating a league championship. ***

The San Lorenzo Football Club was started in a very poor neighborhood by a priest who allowed the children to use Church property to play soccer. One of the first things he asked when he became Pope was for the club to bring him the championship.

The club says that the Pope “Pays his dues religiously.”

This Pope is great at setting us all a good example.
