Porn addiction and what to do about it

Boys are becoming addicted at ages 10 - 12! There is help available through confession and youth leaders. I talk to a lot of guys on social media who want to be free from their addictions. Anyone who suffers needs to reach out and get help. It can do a world of good. Please pray for our young men!

Most definitely they need our prayers. If it isn’t addressed when they are young they take this horrible addiction into their adult lives and it wrecks marriages, families and lives.

Parents can inform their kids. Books like “Good Pictures/Bad Pictures” are written for kids at different age levels to help them understand.

I’m willing to bet that boys at puberty age may think they are “addicted” to porn when it’s just a case of struggling with hormones and self control like many generations have done before them. I don’t doubt that some people are genuinely addicted to porn, but most 12-year-olds do not understand true addiction yet and it’s more a matter of worrying that they are somehow addicted because they find the temptation hard to overcome.

I started at age 12 and at points until age 21 I was watching sometimes every day. I was (and am) incredibly lonely. That’s a big factor for many.

I’m 22, and I’ve been free for 9 months. I don’t know how to give any advice. In my case it was nothing short of a miracle from God. I spent years begging for freedom. I had a frightening event happen in my life that made my desire for it go away.

But maybe the daily rosary could help. It’s said that after a while praying a daily rosary a person will drop sin(s) or drop the rosary.

THANK GOD you are free from the addiction of porn. May Our Lord continue to help you stay free from it and may you be able to help others who deal with it.

Women struggle with it also, pray for them as well. To suggest it is just a male issue or to deny the struggle of women alienates them and perpetuates the “I’m weird and different” notion
