Prayer in Italian -- translation needed, please

#1

Hello,

I am graciously asking anyone with a knowledge of Italian to help me translate the below prayer into English for a “book” I am working on. If you would rather PM me your translation, that’s fine. Also, if you would like credit for your translation, then PM me your name, if you wish, and I’ll make sure to acknowledge your help in this endeavor! God bless!

The prayer:

grazia … se è profittevole all’anima mia. I
Amen.
Padre,Ave,Gloria

Babel Fish translates it as:

Or Gemma Saint, how much pietoso one was yours love for the poor ones, how much large yours zeal in order to help them! You come also in my aid, my present needs, and obtain to me grace… if mine is profitable to the spirit. The numerous miracles, wonderful thanks attributed to your intercessione instill in me the confidence that you will be able to help me. Jesus prays, your Celestial Spouse, for me: mostrandoGli the stigmate ones that the suoAmore it has donated to you, ricordandoGli the blood that from they you stillavi, the spasimi that you have supported, the tears that you have poured for the salvation of the spirits, you place all this your precious treasure like in one love goblet, and Jesus will esaudirà to you. Amen. Father, Hail, Gloria

Ok, with the help of my (admittedly imperfect) knowledge of Romance languages, combined with the translations above and use of a dictionary, and trying to put it into comprehensible English as well, this is the best I can come up with …

"O Saint Gemma, how merciful was your love for the poor, how great your zeal to help them. Pray likewise help me in my present needs, and obtain grace for me to profit my soul. The many miracles, the marvellous graces, attributed to your intercession, instil in me confidence in your help.

Pray to Jesus, your Celestial Spouse, for me, showing the stigmata which your love obtained for you, remembering the blood that has flowed from them, the pains that you have suffered, the tears that you have poured forth for the salvation of souls. Place all these, your most precious treasures, as in a chalice of love, and Jesus will grant them to you. Amen. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be."

Wow! Much better than my own attempt to do the same! :o

Well, I did some Italian in school, and French right up until first year university (which helps a bit as well, believe it or not). I don’t know how well it would pass muster with a native speaker though

Mind you, compare any of the Latin prayers with their translations into English and you’ll see it’s a bit like poetry and allows lots of room for liberties in translation.

Here is another one which needs translation. My attempt at translation follows in blue. Please help me make sure it is translated accurately.

Mystic flower of Tuscany,
who at the school of the Crucified Christ
learned to suffer in silence
and in resignation to the will of God,
teach us to fix our eyes
on the suffering face of the only
Redeemer of the world,
Jesus Christ our Lord.
You, precious gem of the garden of life
loved of an intense love the Virgin Mary
protect mothers
who are suffering today in a unique way
through division and hatred
in human relationships.
The purest lily who loved of an immense love
Jesus Crucified and Risen
who was joined in a unique way
to His Passion and the death of the Lord;
through the gift of the stigmata
and special heavenly favors
guide the young people of our time
to recovery of a genuine spirituality
at the foot of the suffering Christ.
Orphaned by the generous heart
despite the deep pain
you suffered for the loss of both your loved ones,
it makes the children of the whole world
never have to suffer
the premature deaths of their parents.
You, O Gemma Galgani, who are so able
to be near your beloved Lord,
obtain from God the necessary serenity
in order to live in peace with others.
Your youthful and powerful patronage
guarantees for new human lives
to be born in this difficult time
a special protection near the Highest,
in whose arms you abandoned yourself in this world
while now, in heaven, you savor the sweetness of it without sunset.
Amen
