Pre-55 Monastic Calendar Memorials

I recently got a 1945 St. Andrew Daily Missal, and to my delight, I found a supplement in the back with the propers for the Benedictine/Monastic calendar. I noticed that some of the feasts are marked as memorials, a term which I thought didn’t exist until 1969. Is there any difference between memorials and simple feasts? I noticed there are a couple feasts in January that are marked simple, but for most of the year they just seem to not exist.
