Psalm 109:8

Saw an article on the web about some right wing evangelicals using this Scripture to pray for the Presidents death. One of the pastors was a former vice president of the Southern Baptist convention.

Someone may know more about what or who this passage is actually about.

Let his days be few; and let another take his office.

Wasn't it just a few years ago that another Southern Baptist leader said that God doesn't listen to the prayers of the Jews? Looks like that same uncharitable, unchristian spirit is abroad again.

Praying for the death of the President is uncharitable in the least. Oh, they might say that they "mean" that they want him out of office by losing the next election, but that's not the sense of the passage. Another translation is "Let his life be short; let another take his position of authority."

That's a bit clearer about their intention. What a contrast to the Catholic attitude towards unpopular political leaders!
