Push Condoms, Worsen AIDS

The point is to avoid risky behavior in the first place, not just make it less risky. The body, soul and perhaps an unborn child are all put at risk.

Peace,

I think this was an incredibly irresponsible statement the Holy Father made, that will directly lead to the spread of infection and death.
They seem to be saying that if you are not having sex outside of marriage, you will be safe. But that’s not true. Many women, faithful to their husbands, are infected in Africa because male fidelity is not the norm. What is the church advising women to do when for instance they know their husband is infected, but they are not? The Holy Father seems to be saying they should just offer themselves up unprotected and pray that God prevents the infection. That’s ridiculous.

Moreover, I honestly don’t understand the ban against contraception in the church. Even forgetting the issue of disease, is the church arguing that couples should have unlimited children? Because that’s just not reasonable in this day and age. Nor is it moral to have children that you cannot support and feed. At the same time, sex is integral to a healthy marriage, so couples should be able to use contraception in order to protect themselves from disease and ensure that they do not have more children than then can afford or handle.

The truth will do all that? Is it not fair to say immoral behavior will lead to these items you state?

Abstain. If they are forced then perhaps the condom may help, but then it would be rape not sex. And, the miracle condom is no perfect solution and eventually it will fail and we are back to the initial problem.

No that is not what he is saying. What is ridiculous is to keep acting badly, use a device to further these bad acts, mistakenly think you are safe, and encourage more sin.

In all sincerity, have you read anything about what the Church teaches on this issue?

Definitely not.

Sandie75 sounded like a person just born yesterday.

Call it rape, or call it sex: either way it still infects.

Seriously, I can’t believe this Pope right now. AIDS devastates more than just the people who die from it. It makes orphans and widows out of families, even faithful ones. It makes for an elderly population unable to support themselves because their children are dead. And if a woman has an infected, unfaithful husband, she could face an ultimatum: either have sex with him, knowing that he will die eventually and she is likely to follow suit, or refuse sex with him, and be effectively ostracized and unable to support herself or children.

Abraham Lincoln was willing to do whatever it took to preserve the Union: slavery or no slavery, slavery is a grave evil. He was even willing to take normally unconstitutional actions to save the Union from which came that Constitution, for “a life is never given wisely to save a limb.”

In the case of the AIDS epidemic, it ought to be clear that the goal of Christians should be to preserve life. And although the use contraception for the purpose of preventing new life is grave matter, condemning condoms in this un-normal situation is preserving a limb at the cost of so much life. You cannot save the Sanctity of sex if there are no Families, no Human life from which it arises and is given meaning.

Moral problem aside, if condoms were 100% reliable in preventing the spread of HIV, you might have a point. But they’re not. If a husband with HIV always uses a condom with his wife, his wife will get it eventually. It’s just plain probability. How long can you play Russian roulette?

According to what I have read Wash Dc is in the throws of an aids epidemic…I am sure no one told them not to use condoms…they still have created an epidemic by their risky behavior

Perhaps people should start taking responsibility for their own actions instead of shaking their finger at the pope for taking the moral high ground…The reason they got aids is because they were involved in activities with people that spread it…Whose fault is that?

from The Telegraph (UK):

The Vatican has just published its transcript of the Pope’s comments about Aids in Africa and it turns out he said that condoms risk making the problem worse:

[quote]Se non c’è l’anima, se gli africani non si aiutano, non si può risolvere il flagello con la distribuzione di preservativi: al contrario, il rischio è di aumentare il problema.

Maybe it doesn’t make much difference, but the English-speaking press had the Pope saying that it “even aggravates the problems”. Not quite the same resonance; not as headline-worthy.

Also, the Vatican has just clarified what the Pope said. (Why did it take so long?) It confirms the impression that the media have been reading too much into his words. This is from CNS: . . . .

So, no fundamentalist restatement of Catholic opposition to condoms; indeed, a fairly nuanced statement. I think we should file this one under “Pope Catholic, shock horror.”

Shock, horror, indeed. He’s teaching – Catholic teaching!

Even popes can do math.

They are not the same morally. Using a condom when being raped, seems absurd and only a hypothetical. It seems silly to discuss it.

Condom worship is not virtue. Do you thinking telling people to engage in deadly behavior, but wear a condom, is a solution? It is a terrible disservice morally and physically.

Do you honestly think that a violent sexual predator will pause in their crime to say “oops wait I must put on a condom first”.

You can get a condom free at any clinic in any publicly funded school in DC. Or you can purchase them from most Wal-Marts, Target Stores, gas stations etc etc. It does not seem to have helped in DC or the USA for that matter.

Did Abe have a choice?

With HIV infection, YOU DO!

How long do you think you can preserve a life using a condom?

The Church teaches that no sex outside of marriage nor sex without marriage. If people listen, their wouldn’t be this epidemic the world is facing now. But since they don’t, they want to continue in their sins, this time using condoms, hoping that the diseases wouldn’t spread. It’s all a lie. It will continue to spread, maybe not as fast, but spread nevertheless.

The line is clear. Don’t blame the Church for the diseases. Blame the human race for being stupid and not able to control their urges.

lets remember, most people in africa dont even know how hiv/aids is spread. its is foolish to think explaining it but saying a condom will stop it will work.

condoms have large failure rates IF used properly
condom usage will lead to a donwgrade in morality(see U.S.A.)

i am thankful that the pope is doing his job so well. he is concerned for their live, but more concerned for their souls-nothing wrong with that.
