Putting Jesus #1

Hello everyone:

So I truly feel after a lot of praying, reading, and discerning that Jesus is first in my life. I have always thought Jesus was first but I think I never really truly embraced it. Now I do.

As parents, is it normal to feel a tinge of guilt about not putting your children/spouse first? (I mean no disrespect to the Lord by the way).

Just finished a conference where Patrick coffin said that we (as men) should define ourselves as Sons of God first. Husbands second. Fathers third and our community involvement fourth. It makes sense.

God first, yourself next, wife, kids, family, neighbor and community.

Yes, we put God first. But that does mean to ignore family and other responsibilities.

Hmmmm. Phrasing it that way seems to contradict Our Lord’s commands.

Others (your spouse, kids, aunts, cousins, co workers, neighbors, strangers, etc.)

Watch and pray that you may not undergo the test. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. Matthew 26:41 Usccb

You can’t help anyone if you don’t help yourself first.

It’s human hypocrisy and fear that constantly pushes us to help and fix others before fixing ourselves.
