Question About Pope Name

Can a Pope choose any name that he wants?

Can the next Pope be say, for example, Zosimus, Evaristus, or Hilarius?

Perhaps Pope Simplicius II will be our next pope!

As far as I am aware, the newly-elected pope is able to choose any name he wishes. Many I think take a name that they hope will symbolize what they choose to accomplish during their reign or to honor a predecessor (i.e. John Paul II).

The custom is that a pope may choose any name except Peter, out of respect for the first.
