Question for Catholics and non-Catholics working together to establish a consensus

Question for Catholics and non-Catholics, working together to establish a consensus: Why couldn’t Mary touch Jesus at that moment, in the following passage?

"Jesus saith to her: Do not touch me, for I am not yet ascended to my Father. But go to my brethren, and say to them: I ascend to my Father and to your Father, to my God and your God. .’"John 20:17

Because Mary wanted to keep Jesus here on Earth, but he could not permit this as he needed to first ascend to His Father in Heaven, to return again to his disciples only in spiritual and sacramental ways.
