Raleigh abortion clinic worries about potential new anti-abortion neighbor

#1

A local abortion clinic is worried about an anti-abortion pregnancy center moving next door.

A Hand of Hope Pregnancy Resource Center, which says it encourages pregnant women to consider alternatives to abortion, wants to move its offices into a house it recently bought next to A Preferred Women’s Health Center, an abortion clinic on Jones Franklin Road.

Hand of Hope, which currently leases space less than a mile down the road, is asking the city to rezone the land next to the clinic to allow for commercial use. The clinic released a statement Thursday, saying it opposes the “underhanded” rezoning request out of fear of further scrutiny from anti-abortion activists.

I hope they can go next door.

And what an added blessing if they were able to provide general women’s health services. That would be ideal in all these situations, but God has worked great things with humble offerings. It all begins somewhere.

the abortion clinic doesn’t want to lose $$$$ for their business because they know that women who choose life will NOT go into their “clinic”…they don’t have anything to offer a woman who wants to have her child - no baby clothes, no parenting classes, no help with rent or groceries…these are generally things offered by a crisis pregnancy center in addition to not moving the ultrasound screen away from the woman’s view.

The Knights of Columbus has done wonderful work in helping to provide ultrasound machines for the pregnancy clinics.

Agree’d and we should make it the standard method of operation. Its just smart thinking imho.

Complete crisis support.

It sounds like some political competition is going on.

Why? If they feel justified in what they are doing, why would they mind the scrutiny.

#9

Well look who is now “anti-choice” all of a sudden.

#10

That doesn’t seem to be the issue.
Despite the headline, the “anti-abortion neighbor”–A Hand of Hope–is *already *a neighbor…their current digs are across the street, says the article.

Hand of Hope does not offer any of these things.
They offer pregnancy tests, “limited” ultrasounds, tests for sexually-transmitted diseases, and “information” about abortion.

.

The article says they are “down the road” currently.

#12

And what does the abortion clinic offer to help the woman?

EXCELLENT article … 500 ultrasound machines … and counting

You’re pretty quick to deploy those scare quote around information. Any particular reason you think they’re giving less-than-accurate information about abortion? Or is it simply a matter of believing that a group opposed to abortion couldn’t possibly provide accurate information? If that was the case, shouldn’t you be equally concerned about the information provided by abortion centers since they have a financial incentive to terminate their pregnancy?
