Rocks? Matthew 16:18


Are we also “rocks” if we confess Jesus to be the Christ, the Son of the Living God?


Metaphorically, sure. Origen thought so. But the litteral meaning points to Peter.

Yeah I was reading a little on Origen and some other Fathers. Is that why Peter in his First Epistle uses this metaphor for “living stones?” Also, Peter uses a different Greek word for “stones” which is lithoi. And also in his first epistle he is describing baptism, not confessing of faith.


Lithoi, or Lithos, would be a more accurate Koine Greek rendering of a “small stone”, than the oft-misconstrued “Petros”.
