Correlational studies with possible many other unknown intervening variables. And the correlations, though some significant, are small and have very little practical significance. I don’t buy it. Imagine this:
People who don’t use condoms are less inhibited
uninhibited people enjoy greater life satisfaction
Just an example of the possible Z variable.
