Saint books?

Lately I’ve been reading Louis de Wohl’s books about saints–each one is in the format of a fiction novel, and each one examines the life/experiences of a certain saint. Trouble is, they are pretty dry and I am not liking the writing in most of them. But I am really interested in finding other books like this, novels that tell the stories of saints through their eyes or others’. I would be interested in finding any such book about any saint, but if anyone knows of one about the martyrs under Roman persecution, that would be right up my alley.

Oh, I also had another question for anyone who might know. In *The Story of a Soul *, St. Thérèse mentions one of her favorite pieces of spiritual reading to be “The Imitation”. Does she mean the book by Thomas à Kempis, or something else?
