In John 14: 6, Jesus says “no one comes to the Father, but by Me.” What does this mean? It is tempting to think that this passage means that one cannot reach eternal salvation except through Jesus Christ. However, the Church reasonably concludes that even those who have never heard of Jesus can attain eternal salvation. How do we resolve this apparent discrepancy for someone who inquires in good faith?
There is no discrepancy; even those who have never heard of Jesus attain salvation through Him. He is the only Way—even if people don’t know Him. Believe me, if they live virtuously, eventually they will know Him!
