Sci-fi games: respawn by cloning

I’m noticing in a lot of video games respawning (resetting your life after you die) is explained by cloning. They never specify whether a complete clone’s mind is wiped or they just somehow only clone a body, so I’m unsure whether to play these games. Your thoughts?

You play them because they can be good fun lol. Seriously, I wouldn't read much into it...it's just a device to try and explain how a character can come back to life in a way that fits with the surroundings so it sounds natural. It's just a story telling device, it's not making any kind of comment. It's like in some games it's a 'notepad' where the character writes down what happened. And some just don't have any reason at all.
