It takes a final order on a substantive issue. A temporary restraining order or a preliminary injunction is not a final order.
I believe it has become an issue because Trump found a particular item which resonated with the conservative voters. He never had a problem with hiring ‘undocumented workers’ as a businessman. Now, today he fires the head of the TVA for supposedly using undocumented workers!
All that stuff about ‘build a wall’ and ‘Mexico will pay’ was just red meat for his crowd gatherings, IMHO.
A great many of us consider the lack of a secure border, with the huge influx of illegal immigrants, plus the drug and sex trafficking trades, a serious problem. I don’t really care why Trump is addressing it; I only care that he is in fact doing something to resolve it.
OK, but must Trump say that undocumenteds (who have a LOWER crime rate than legal residents) coming to the US are criminals and rapists? Must he slur a judge by saying his ruling was racially biased because the judge is of a racial minority? That’s just pandering a demagoguery. It does nothing to resolve any problem.
"In June 2015, while Trump was a presidential candidate, he said, “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best.”
He added: “They’re sending people that have a lot of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”"
Well if we keep up the rates of COVID infections, Mexico will be more than happy to pay for the wall.
Canada on the other hand will also build a wall and be happy to use their own money.
He may have a point.
It’s widely known that cartel members are among those going over the border.
Your comment sounds obtuse. Trump is not talking about legal immigration by Mexicans or actions of the Mexican government.
" “I like Mexico,” Trump told CNN’s Jake Tapper . “I love the Mexican people. I do business with the Mexican people, but you have people coming through the border that are from all over. And they’re bad. They’re really bad.”
“You have people coming in, and I’m not just saying Mexicans — I’m talking about people that are from all over that are killers and rapists, and they’re coming into this country,” Trump continued."
"In his July 6 statement, Trump clarified that he was referring to cases where undocumented immigrants commit violent crimes or smuggle drugs. "
Once again, his fear-mongering was of recent vintage and did nothing to solve the problem.
Unsubstantiated claim about illegals is unsubstantiated.
Now, if you leave out violating laws regarding immigration:
" The research is clear. Undocumented and legal immigrants are less likely to commit crimes than native-born American citizens. The libertarian Cato Institute published a study based on Texas data that showed native-born citizens are more likely to be convicted of committing violent crimes, such as homicide, than either undocumented or legal immigrants."
“If we stop counting crimes illegal aliens commit, they commit fewer crimes.” Who are you fooling besides yourself?
I am not so concerned with what he says. I am very concerned with what he does. As for the allegedly lower crime rate among illegals, about 30% of federal prisoners are illegals, so that’s a problem. Nor did he suggest that all illegals were criminals, and rapists but it is undeniable that some of them are, and that’s a problem.
Building the wall is one way to solve the problem.
That’s kind of a status crime, isn’t it? The point is that illegal entrants are more law-abiding than legal citizens.
But, if you take away his fear-mongering then the problem is really different. There is a problem as to how CA growers are going to have pickers, etc. Those illegal entrants have found a place in our economy, haven’t they?
No, it’s a “They broke the law regarding entry to this country, therefore they are criminals” kind of crime.
Get out of here with that anti-American propaganda. Illegal entry into the country is a misdemeanor. There are millions of Americans in this country with clean records, and you slander them for the sake of your politics. That is vile.
Tell that to the libertarian Cato institute. Its a fact, not propaganda. I’m surprised that the truth upsets you.
The only parties ignoring the truth here are you and that schill organization for the Koch brothers.
OK, cite studies to the contrary.
I will cite your words.
Every illegal alien has committed at least one misdemeanor.
Every crime committed by an illegal against a citizen would be prevented if they were not here. That would require deportation and border controls however.
We can start by acknowledging that no one really knows, so the claim that illegals commit less crime than citizens is unsubstantiated. There are studies, like the one from the CATO Institute that claim lower rates, and other studies such as this one that claim the opposite.
It is also worth noting that about half the violent crimes are not even reported (Bureau of Justice Statistics). It is also true that about half of the illegals are working on the book jobs, but they obtained those jobs illegally. These, too, are crimes. The numbers for illegals are further reduced if the person is deported before trial.
The claim that illegals commit fewer crimes than citizens is an I-choose-to-believe-this opinion, not a demonstrable fact.
