Shinto Priest's Wife, Daughter Becoming Catholic [Zenit]

Mother Teresa Inspired Conversion

PARIS, MARCH 29, 2010 (Zenit.org).- Two of the many thousands who will join the Catholic Church this Easter are a mother and daughter from Japan. Their story is unique because the family’s father is a Shinto priest.

The Eglises d’Asie, the news agency of the Foreign Missions of Paris, reported the story of Ito Miyuki, 38, and her daughter, Kotone, 5, who will be baptized into the Catholic faith.

The celebration will take place in the parish of Yonezawa in the prefecture of Yamagata.

This is such an encouraging and great story! The Catholic church in Japan is small, but devout. It is interesting that its possible that her cancer was cured by the intercession of Mother Theresa of Calcutta. Another great story is the one about Ari no machi no Maria (Mary of Ant town) - a true story of a young woman who converts to Catholicism in spite of opposition from her upper crust family. She goes on to work with the poor children of Tokyo left homeless and orphaned because of the war.
