The association of cheap, downmarket beer with Brobdingnagian drinking contests is so legendary among certain social groups (mostly younger ones) as not to need further comment. I’ve heard such contests described as “bonding activities”, and all I can say is, I can think of so many other, much more worthwhile, much more wholesome ways to bond with one’s fellows — hunting, working out together in the gym, going hiking, running marathons, volunteering for organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, charity fundraisers, riding dirtbikes or ATVs, going to sporting events or NASCAR, the possibilities are endless.
“Tastes like people”
Your getting a lot of jovial responses OP… was this a serious question though?
@nascarfann Imo I’m not sure if it’s a sin. However I think probably offends the spirit of the law if not the letter specifically. Alcohol isn’t inherently bad, but we have to be very careful with its use. Drunkenness is definitely a sin, and shotgunning a beer is basically power it through to get the alcohol effects fast.
I’m down for prettymuch anything with sour cream in it.
Sour cream, MSG, garlic powder, a dash of salt, dried chopped onion, and pretty much anything on hand, depending on taste. I go for paprika myself. And don’t even get me started on crack dip. A more fitting name was never dreamed up.
Kentucky beer cheese has its points as well. HM The Queen is a fan (she breeds horses in Kentucky) and so am I.
Thank God on high, there are still people who use MSG.
Sounds amazing. I like a good beer cheese too.
Hard to get further South where I am. I tried Kroger today, they used to carry it, they carry some items unique to Cincinnati (where they’re headquartered), such as Skyline Chili and Graeter’s French Pot ice cream, as well as Kentucky — Cincinnati is practically in Kentucky anyway, kind of like Kentucky’s version of New York City. They carry Ale-8-One (a type of ginger ale), which, like beer cheese, originated in the pleasant little town of Winchester, Kentucky.
That’s exactly was shotgunning is…
Disagree… There are quite a few of us from college who were pretty decent at shotgunning (or beer bonging) that have now developed quite the taste for good wine…or personally for me; craft beers.

We’ll have to agree to disagree. You’re definitely not in the majority.
In my much earlier years I knew a guy who could put a beer down the gullet faster than I could pour one out into a glass. I’m not certain what enjoyment he got out of this, other than to be able to say he could do it… and show people at every opportunity.
I drink 4 times a year: Thanksgiving, Nativity, New Year’s and Pascha. When +Mom was living (oh yikes it’s 11 months today), one bottle of my cousin’s homemade wine would last both of us an entire year. (And I still have 2 unopened bottles…)
Disagree, but you’re welcome to your opinion.
