Should trees be placed in the sanctuary?

Our pastor has placed two bareroot cherry trees in the sanctuary. I asked him why and I was told they are symbolic of Lent into Easter. I can find no precedence for this symbolism. Is it some ancient druid ritual that we are adopting? Any insight would be appreciated.

Decorating a church with plants and/or flowers no more means that your parish is adopting an “ancient druid ritual” than holy water fonts mean that it is adopting an “ancient Greek ritual.” If your pastor says that the trees are meant to symbolize the Lenten and Easter seasons, there is no reason not to believe him.
