Should we make the sign of the cross when we genuflect?

I notice some parishioners in our church make the sign of the cross in addition to genuflecting when they enter and exit the pews. Is this necessary?

No, it is not necessary. All that is called for is genuflection on one knee.

Eucharistiae Sacramentum:

  1. Genuflection in the presence of the blessed sacrament, whether reserved in the tabernacle or exposed for public adoration, is on one knee.
