Show no partiality

The Letter of Saint James, Chapter 2 Verse 1 states:
My brothers and sisters, show no partiality as you adhere to the faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ.

Why would someone show partiality?

He goes on to explain, in the following verses.

Do we treat all believers in the same way? Or, do we treat the ‘movers and shakers’ better than the Joe-Six-Packs in the parish? Are we more polite and show deference to those who are rich or influential in the community? Do we treat them better than the folks who don’t have money or power?

This is a teaching about how to treat fellow Christians.
