How common is it for the congregation to sing hymns during the extraordinary form of the mass? I regularly attend one where it’s not communion but I like to hear different perspectives.
The one I go to the congregation only sings an exit hymn.
I’ve seen them sing an entrance hymn and an exit hymn.
The hymns sung are appropriate to that Mass and might include a gathering and a processional and a Communion hymn. There is High Mass and Low Mass. Sung High Masses include singing by the congregation.
It is common for the hymns to be in Latin, (in my congregation at least), and unaccompanied by an instrument, acapella.
