Slice of revenge: Dominos in India ransacked amid diplomat spat with US

#1

MUMBAI, India -- A Dominos Pizza outlet in a Mumbai suburb was ransacked by activists from a small Indian political group on Friday who also demanded a ban on U.S. goods until Washington apologizes for the arrest of an Indian diplomat in New York.

Police said no-one was hurt in the attack, which came as diplomats from the two countries sought to defuse the row over the arrest and subsequent strip-search of Devyani Khobragade in a visa fraud case.

The Republican Party of India, which carried out the attack, sent pictures to media organizations showing a broken glass door at the outlet. The party said it wanted the United States to drop charges against the Indian diplomat.

I guess they don't like Dominos.

More mindless violence; at least no one was physically injured.

Dominoes will rue the day they set up shop in Mumbai. Down with the pizza producing bourgeoisie’s reign of terror.

Mindless violence, yes, to the extent that any mob violence is mindless. But it clearly was an expression of nationalist anger at the United States. Domino’s is an American restaurant, and therefore represents the United States at a popular level.

McDonald’s restaurants in Mumbai are being closely guarded, on the wake of the Domino’s attack.

Actually, I am guessing this Dominos is franchised owned, by a native Indian, not a corporate owned store. Thus mob violence like this is even more mindless. They are trying to attack the "brand" which is unfortunately an intangible thing (unless they were going to come to the US and attack the corporate headquarters), and in the process hurting their fellow citizens who own, operate, and work at this particular store.
